Jamba Juice Coupon

This coupon is a form of advertising because it has the company brand name, Jamba Juice, on it. I quickly recognized the advertising technique Jamba Juice used in this coupon ad, which was Bribery. Since it states, "Buy any smoothie, Get one FREE," it guarantees the consumer that he/she will get a free drink. Because people sometimes become greedy, they tend to pay attention to the word "free" especially if it's the biggest word on the coupon, a different color, and in all capital letters. So another technique the seller could be using is Gestalt, since the color and size of certain words stands out differently more than others. Afterwards, I noticed that the less desirable information is in a tiny print, so that the consumer wouldn't recognize it as easily. Jamba Juice wants to sell their smoothies, so they do everything it takes for the consumer to recognize the information they want to see FIRST and later discover the whole truth about the coupon ad, after they already get lured into paying attention to the ad.

  1. The expiration date on coupons like this also give the consumer the sense that they need to go as fast as possible to snag the deal. This could also prevent the consumer from checking the fine print with their haste, as you said.
